Step 1: cook the vegetables.
If the herring fillet is too salty, soak it in cold water 15-20 minutes.
Peel the carrots and cut into small cubes.
Cook carrots and peas in salted water. Vegetables should be soft, but not fall apart and preserve their taste, and not give it to the broth. Frozen peas need to be cooked around 2-3 minutes after boiling, cubes of carrots are about the same (it all depends on their size).
After cooking, discard the vegetables in a sieve and rinse with cold water.
You can use canned peas and carrots to make a salad, but in my opinion the color and taste of such vegetables is not at all the same.
Dice the onion.
Step 2: chop the herring.
Peel the herring fillet from the skin, and then cut into small cubes.
Step 3: chop the cucumbers.
Dice pickled cucumbers too.
Step 4: mix the ingredients.
Put all prepared ingredients in a deep plate.
Add mayonnaise, salt and pepper to taste.
Instead of mayonnaise, you can use natural yogurt or sour cream mixed with mustard.
Cover the salad plate with cling film and refrigerate 2-3 hours.
Step 5: serve salad with herring, carrots and peas.
Transfer the cold salad with herring, carrots and peas into a salad bowl, decorate with fresh herbs and enjoy.
