We now live in a world where we don't have to mix our own cocktails.

When all of your creative, booze-loving genius comes together in one glass, the drink blends so well together it could in fact be the new nectar of the gods. Clearly you want to experience the moment again and again (and probably so do all of your friends), but when you attempt to recreate the tasty drink you are met with sadness and despair.

Enter the answer to all of your party problems: Bartendro the robotic bartender. It was early 2006 when Rob and Pierre began dreaming up Party Robotics, a company that specializes in scientific partying. In 2009, their love of spirits and technology backgrounds combined, and they began creating stunning precision cocktail-dispensing robots.

With these robots one can brew the perfect cup of coffee, blend wine, and even add nutrients to hydroponics setup. With their models, you can create your own drink combinations, or just put the bot into shot mode. Drink and shot sizes are adjustable and you can even enable a taster button.

UbaBOT Mixes Up 50 Cocktails To Quench CCCamp Thirst

[Steffen Pfiffner’s] tent during the Chaos Communication Camp is full of happiness delivered by something greater than alcohol alone. He’s brought a robot bartender that serves up a show while mixing up one of about 50 cocktail recipes.

The project is the work of five friends from Lake Constance (Bodensee) in southern Germany, near the borders with Switzerland and Austria. It started, as many projects do, with some late night drinking. The five were toiling to mix beverages more complex than your most common fare, and decided to turn their labors instead to robot making.

Since 2012, the project has gone through five revisions, the most recent of which the team calls Uba BOT. Delightfully, the cup tray which moves left and right on the front of the machine is connected using a strain gauge. This provides a way for the robot to sense the presence of a cup to avoid dispensing ingredients all over the bar itself. It also provides a feedback loop that verifies the amount of liquids and volume of ice added to the cup. Once everything’s in the cup, a rotary milk frother lowers itself into position to stir things up a bit.

A Raspberry Pi is in control of eighteen pumps that dispense both liquor and mixers. The team is still trying to work out a way to reliably dispense carbonated mixers, which so far have been a challenge due to over-excited foam. The software was originally based on Bartendro, but has since taken on a life of its own as these things often do. The first time you want a drink, you register an RFID tag and record your height, weight, and age which keeps track of your estimated blood alcohol content based on time and your number of visits to the robot. The firmware also tracks the state of each ingredient to alert a meat-based bar attendant of when a bottle needs replacing.

Some tasks are better left up to computers, like playing "Jeopardy," calculating pi , and mixing cocktails. Wait . mixing cocktails? If you don't think a computer can whip up a compelling cocktail, then you haven't met Bartendro.

A creation of the awesomely named company Party Robotics, Bartendro is a robot mixologist crafted from peristaltic pumps, Raspberry Pi, custom electronic dispenser boards, and food-grade tubing. It may simultaneously be the least-necessary and most-desirable robot in the world.

The cocktail-dispensing machine can turn out a drink in less than 10 seconds. It can churn out 200 cocktails in an evening -- and it won't break a sweat, take a bathroom break, or hit on your girlfriend. Don't worry, you can still sit there and tell it all your problems. It won't interrupt and it won't judge you.

Perhaps the best part of Bartendro is that it's not relegated to a lab somewhere far away where you'll never get to bask in its boozy glory. It's on Kickstarter. Early backers can get in on a Shotbot for $249, a working robot that dispenses shots from a single bottle.

Let's be realistic, though. You won't be satisfied with just a Shotbot. You're going to want to move up the pledge ranks and jump straight to the $2,499 level for a 15-bottle Bartendro. You just need to provide a tablet or smartphone to tell it what to do. Sure, the smaller Bartendros cost a lot less money, but for sheer overpowering robotic cocktail mayhem, you can't beat a Bartendro 15.

Let's raise a glass to Bartendro. I'm hoping it reaches its $135,000 goal, and Party Robotics is able to put the machines into wider production. If I had one of these, I would never leave my house again.

Bartendro open-source cocktail dispensing robot

Serving liquor at parties could be an overwhelming experience. If you are one of those individuals who serve a variety of booze at the cocktail parties, a liquor dispenser seems to be an essential item. Enter Bartendro by Party Robotics, an open-source cocktail dispensing robot that makes drinks in no time and does it over and over again without any hassles. Lightweight and portable, the Bartendro is a perfect thing for weekend parties, weddings or any other occasion where cocktail serving is must. One cocktail dispensing bot is able to serve more than 200 drinks at a single time.

The Bartendro features an intuitive user interface that can be further customized according to the type of events. It’s easy to set up and takes about 5 minutes for cleaning. Bartenders beware: A robotic drink-dispensing rig is aiming to steal your customers while pouring cocktail creations at the push of a touchscreen button. Its creators call it Bartendro.

Operated through an iPad interface, the open source, synthetic Al Swearengen holds up to 15 bottles of beverage plumbed into custom-designed, Raspberry Pi-controlled pumps. It's capable of mixing dozens of drinks, including black Russians, Kahlua mudslides, or almost any other classy beverage of your choosing.

The combination of technical utility and hackerspace aesthetics would make this a perfect accessory in the Mos Eisley cantina, which isn't far from Bartendro's actual roots in the dusty fields of Burning Man. Pierre Michael and Robert Kaye worked on projects for that desert gathering for years before being inspired by the concept of microcontroller-based liquid dispensing. Party Robotics was born, and tech conference parties may never be the same.

As simple as the concept seems it's actually the result of a lot of R&D. The team developed a custom dispensing board that uses the same processor as the Arduino and is controlled by the Raspberry Pi. The physical design is built around peristaltic pumps, which can dispense precise amounts of liquid and are often used in exacting medical applications. When the cost of using off-the-shelf parts became too expensive, Michael, formerly an engineer at iRobot, started machining a new, lower-cost design.

"The most challenging part was figuring out how to dispense liquids to be consumed in a safe and sanitary manner," says Michael. "We started with valves and flow meters that always retained residue in the crevices even after cleaning. We tried iteration after iteration of peristaltic pumps of our own design, but they just weren't satisfactory."

They eventually found a Japanese company that could supply an appropriate pump, but sourcing cost-effective and food-safe tubes was another challenge. The team had to soak the tubes in wine and cranberry juice for weeks until they found one that wouldn't yellow. Then there was the challenge of writing code to control this mechanical Sam Malone — though software testing has never been more fun.

"We built our first full bot in 2009, then proceeded to build four more designs from the ground up," says Michael. "It was an obsession, and a race to find the best and cleanest solution. We used to have inverted liquids, in custom containers at first, then in their own bottles." The current iteration is the most elegant yet, relying on an array of pumps to transfer the liquids from bottles sitting on a countertop.

Anyone care for a cybernetic cocktail?

The Party Robotics team is trying to raise funds to put the Bartendro into production, but the hardware and software information files are available on Github. The team is even suggesting some fun hacks theyɽ like to see. Using a Kinect or breathalyzer to detect if a guest at a party has been over served would make the product safer, but a shaker module for martinis would make it epic.

For those who prefer to avoid working with code to build their own, buying a setup doesn't come cheap — a single liquor ShotBot is $299, a three-liquid version costs $699, a seven-pump system is $1,499, and the 15-pump dispenser will run up a tab of $2,999, although there are discounts for early backers. While priced outside the budget of most man-caves, the Party Robotics team believes that they have an opportunity to serve the established bar market.

"We're thinking that this is a professional product," says Michael. "There will undoubtedly need to be more refinements in the future to cater to specific customer needs, but as it stands, it's a workhorse at the parties and events we go to."

Bartendro Is A Precision-Mixing Robot Bartender

Cute bartenders are a thing because how else will you get me to sit in a bar and pay for overpriced drinks all night long? That’s why I’m suspicious about the potential for success of robot bartenders — they are just not that hot looking!. Still, if you’d rather have automatons pouring drinks in your party for whatever reason I can never fathom, now you can with the Bartendro.

A robot drink dispenser, it will make every drink exactly the same way, so you never have to put up with cocktails that taste somewhat different every single time you order it. Just type whatever you want on the accompanying mobile app and it will create the drink, with no room for lame pickup attempts (dude, bartenders are advanced-level), awkward conversations and creepy forced smiles along the way.

The Bartendro comes in three variants, with either 3, 7 or 15 dispensers. A single 3-dispenser model can supposedly produce up to 200 drinks a night, making it a plenty functional replacement for a regular bartender in an open bar setting. During operation, you hook up the Bartendro’s tubes to the different spirits and beverages it will use, then program the recipes onto the mobile app. Any time someone wants a drink, they just choose and it comes out, tasting precisely the way the drink was intended to.

To ensure accurately-concocted cocktails, they use peristaltic pumps combined with custom electronics that dispense a specific volume with every revolution of the motor. A Raspberry Pi computer is used to manage the whole operation. The only catch? You’ll have to periodically replenish the source beverages, especially for a big party.

Currently a project on Kickstarter, the Bartendro can be bought either as individual kits or as finished robots. Prices for the kits start at $99, with the finished builds starting at $699 for the three-dispenser model.

6. Connect the dispenser

The dispenser board is mounted on front face of the case back (Figure L).

Connect lengths of silicone hoses to your pumps, and run them into the dispenser holes (Figure M). Once you’ve got everything working, you can zip-tie them together to keep them tidy.

The Homemade Hack Job

There is certainly nothing wrong with a little innovation. However, when a lot of fit and finish is sacrificed along the way, some of the novelty can be lost. There are many, many homemade cocktail mixing machines in existence. Most of them cannot be found online or on forums. The ones that are visible seem to share one common motivation: get the job done. They’re not always pretty, but they are packed with creativity and personal touches. BarBot.us captures a ton of user creations and shares a lot of their findings. These products showcase a lot of interesting findings from artistic tips about LED lighting and sound effects to programming tips on liquid distribution and component interfaces. As they are not intended for mass production they sometimes have loose panels and looping tubes, but the DIY spirit is there 100%.

Serve Shots With Your Smartphone and This Bartending Robot

Those of us who have watched way too many episodes of The Jetsons probably always wished we had a Rosie the Robot to help make our meals, do the laundry and feed the dog. But Rosie probably couldn't mix a killer Mudslide or Cosmopolitan like this new robot designed by a California company.

San Luis Obispo, Calif.-based Party Robotics is raising funds on Kickstarter to further develop its open-source, cocktail-dispensing robot, "Bartendro." The bartending robot features open-source hardware and software, and can be controlled with a smartphone or tablet.

Creators Pierre Michael and Robert Kaye have combined experience with software, open communities and designing robot electronics. The team has previously designed a water-to-wine cooler.

With Bartendro, Michael says they hope to take the guesswork and messiness out of making cocktails with the robot's automated pouring.

"I was more of a beer and wine guy. I liked cocktails, but they seemed a little unapproachable," Michael said in a video on their Kickstarter page. "Whenever I was going to make a drink, it was messy and I was always wondering: 'Is this what my drink is supposed to taste like?'"

Powered by peristaltic pumps and custom electronics, the bartending robot can dispense drinks through food-grade tubing.

"We can measure fractions of a revolution to dispense a known volume to within a milliliter," Michael said in the video.

They've designed multiple size models: three-, seven- or 15- pump versions, as well as a single shot dispenser. The gadgets utilize the same processor as an Arduino. The processor connects to a "router board" and then to a Raspberry Pi computer, which can create the connection to Wi-Fi. All those connections help create the perfect drink.

With 23 days left to go, the Kickstarter project had already raised more than $80,600 as of Friday afternoon. The campaign goal is $135,000. The team said they'd also like to build an open drink database and get feedback from people about recipes.

Sci-fi bars usually have a robot bartender, and for good reason. The algorithmic mixtures of the robot ensure that each drink is always perfect. Now two engineers is making the robot bartender a reality, sans the ability to empathize with your drunken whining.

Meet Bartendro, a “cocktail dispensing robot” from the folks at Party Robotics. The machine is being billed as the ultimate drink maker as it can easily and quickly make any drink you can think of. It’s extremely portable and easily programmable so you can serve any kind of drink at any party.

Bartendro will become a reality if it’s able to raise $135,000 on Kickstarter in the next 26 days. The project already has 124 backers pledging $37,008, but it’s gonna need a lot more support before our robotic alcohol overlords become a reality.

So, how much is this thing going to cost? The base Bartendro, called the Shotbot, comes with a single dispenser and costs $249. Things get a bit more expensive as you move to more custom built dispensers. The Bartendro 3 will cost $499, the Bartendro 7 costs $1,199 and the Bartendro 15 goes for $2,499.

The most exciting part about this project, however, is Party Robotics plans to build a drink database. The team is collecting recipes from all over the world so that Bartendro can perfectly create any drink. It would be a huge help for those of us who are terrible at following drink recipes. I always unwittingly add too much alcohol, thus overpowering any semblance of sweetness found in the drink. The $499 asking price might be worth it if it means I never have to waste any more alcohol on botched recipe experiments.
